How to use Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2024

Pink? On every wall in the home? That’s exactly what the colour experts at Dulux say is the shortcut to interior design style.

The bold suggestion is actually the announcement of the paint brand’s Colour of the Year 2024. The chosen shade is called Sweet Embrace™, selected for its ability to create a sense of belonging and softness. Before your mind runs away with notions of bubble gum or fuchsia, Sweet Embrace™ is a pale and delicate pink, qualifying it as a very adaptable, neutral shade.

If you are looking to redecorate, why not consider Sweet Embrace™? Here are some ideas of how to use the current Dulux Colour of the Year.

    Bring warmth to north-facing rooms

If a room in your house always feels dark and gives off cold vibes, it may be north facing. This means it doesn’t receive much direct sunlight due to the way it faces. Sweet Embrace™ has been earmarked as an excellent paint colour to warm up north facing rooms. This pink shade will help reflect what natural light there is, while the paint shade itself is aesthetically cosy.

Dip your toes into the colour drenching trend

Colour drenching a room is when you paint every available surface with the same shade – walls, woodwork, ceilings and even radiators. The boldest of homeowners may opt for a dark, moody colour but if this is your first foray into the trend – or you’re planning to put your home on the market – stick with a light neutral. Sweet Embrace™ is pale enough to use when colour drenching.

Combine with last year’s in-vogue shade

Dulux is very generous with advice on how to combine colours, sometimes recommending pairings that are not so obvious. It suggests Sweet Embrace™ can be used in tandem with golden beiges to create a warm, cocooning ambience. If this sounds good to you, look no further than the Dulux Colour of the Year 2023 – Wild Wonder™. This nature-inspired, glowing neutral from last year shares the same soft, mellow properties as Sweet Embrace™. Try this combination in a bedroom or nursery.

Give furniture a new lease of life

Shabby or worn items can be upcycled – a process of improvement that will help smarten up an entire room. Pine, oak and even MDF-based furniture can be lightly sanded, primed and repainted in Sweet Embrace™ – choose an eggshell finish for the best durability. This delicate pink is a surprisingly good choice for furniture, especially bedside cabinets, sideboards and even kitchen cabinets.
